Ok, since I am going to run the turn signal mirrors, figure this is a good point to go ahead and upgrade to power mirros. I need to know if there is anything special that needs to me done, i.e. relays, and how kinda a general overfew of how to wire it up. I am going to be using factory mirros, and the factory switch.

No relays, you just need a constant hot and a ground to the switch and three wires from the switch out to each mirror. |

| Related to the topic: Could I just use the black panel (around the door handle) from a door panel with electrics and put it into my manual door panel, or would I have to get the whole door panel? I like the factory switch look rather than aftermarket, so thats what i plan on doing when i wire everything up.. |

You have an XLT, so you can use those door panels just fine. If you convert to power windows though, you are going to have a hole from where the window crank shaft is.
Also, sorry about that mirror on eBay, just to good of a deal to pass up, and I had to get it. Now I need to find a passanger side one.
Thanks for the help Bob, the info on the wiring should be in the Clitons manuel right? |

Probably. The power mirror wiring hasn't changed much over the last several years. |

I'm doing the same conversion to a powered mirror after my manual one got bashed on a 2005 Ranger XL. If you've done this, could you let me know where the easiest/nearest constant power wire to connect the switch to is located (and likely wire color)? Or did you have to run the wire all the way to the fuse box (and is the mirror fuse live on a non-powered mirror Ranger?) Thanks. |

Had to run a wire to the box, I think there was power in the slot for the fuse already, just needed an output. http://generation-edge.info/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10071
If you don't want to do all that, there are a couple wires under the dash you could tap into. |

| Which do you think is easiest? I looked at the fuse box, just has 3 bolts holding it in, but hard to tell if it's easy to pull out and how difficult it would be to connect a wire to the fuse connector. And I'm not sure if there is an easy to access power wire under the dash ('cuz I don't know which wire I'm looking for). I've been looking at postings about alarm/power door lock installation to see if there's any pics of where they tap into for power, but no luck so far. |

You will need to use a meter to find a hot wire in the box, #1 should be hot and is the factory spot for mirrors.
Three bolts hold the box in, you have to remove the red cover, and slide a blank plug end into the back of the box. I have a couple extra and could send you one if you send me your address. Just add a length of wire to it and run it into the door, then add a fuse in the box once everything is put in and ready to go. Like I said, I will send it to you, but you gotta take pics since I have my door back together already. |

| Thanks. I think I've worked out most of the details, except for buying and installing the switch. When I go to the salvage yard to get the mirror I'll look at the switches they have and will get a better idea where I can install it (hopefully with minimal cutting of the armrest, maybe on the lower left dashboard.) I'll PM address then when all is good, and will describe the project when successful for others who are tired of rolling down the window (somehow always when it's raining or cold) to adjust the mirror. |
