Alright been many years since i have charged a battery. When I first put the charger on the battery it was reading up around 8 -9 after 2 hours it was down to 3 so does that mean it is fully charged or what ever?

Most chargers start at a higher amperage rate and then come down. Let it charge until it reaches zero.

It's best to put it on a "trickle charge" at like 2 amps for 12-24 hours. Remember... when charging a battery, slow is more gooder.

I'm curious... why did it need to be charged? Did you leave lights on, etc? Is it an old battery? Tell us more.

It hadn't been started in a week.

Went to move it and it wouldn't start. I charged it and no it starts fine let it sit over night and it fired right up this morning

Ya it is the 89 ranger battery is roughly 3-4 years old cables need replaced.

Need to invest in a trickle charge instead of this old antique charger

Sounds to me like there is a constant small load on the battery. It should not discharge enough to not start the truck k in a weeks time.

Follow the current draw, you will find the culprit(s).
