So today my truck wouldnt start, all it did was click when the key was turned, so i imediately dove under the truck to pull the starter off. took it down and had it tested, passed as if it was brand new. so i started thinking of everything that it could be. put an electrical meter on the battery, it read 13.4 volts, so my starter passed, my battery passed... couldnt find anything it could possibly be. so i took everything off piece by piece. turns out there was a crack right next to the negative battery terminal, that appearantly kills your cranking amps, but the voltage stays the same, in other words, the radio, lights, all the accessories work fine, but its not enough power to turn the motor over. "CH-CHING" thats 90 bucks for a new battery, and all day effin with the truck trying to figure out, what was starring my in the face!

What does high score mean...? Did I break it?

yeah, it was a crack in the plastic, leading to the negative terminal. put a new battery on it and i just looked at the key and it growled to life and purred at me.

That's why a battery (and an alternator for that matter) has to be tested under load. Back when I was in school, you had to use a carbon pile resistor to simulate the load of the vehicle. I suppose now days there is some new fangled electronic gizmo that does that job.

Is that anything like a gomer pile?
