Hey Bob...i plan on doing this to my '71 chevy with it's side markers......

Here's the diagram from Daniel Stern Lighting....

My chevy has the 1157 bulbs on the turn signals, and two leads for the the side markers. Would doing this to my chevy work the same as on my ranger????

THANKS!!

Shane

Is there an echo in here?

BTW, what year did Chevy start doing that at the factory for all of their (slow) vehicles?

1157's are dual filament bulbs, similar to what a Ranger uses except with a different base. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work - just cut the ground side from the marker light and tap it to the hot side of the front blinker.

I don't really know.....I know they started putting markers on their trucks in '68, and some had lights in the marker, some didn't. Mine...didn't. I'm converting.

Nope each side is independent of the other, you can just do one and make sure your doing it correctly.

then you did something wrong. test the socket at the blinker/running lamp with a test light to see if you spliced the correct wire.

Also check your connections.

wait.....I just noticed you are in canada. This mod might not work in conjunction with your daytime driving lights(DRLS).

Cut the ground wire (black) about 1~2" from the corner marker.

Then select the cut end of the black wire coming FROM the corner, NOT the one that goes back into the harness to ground.

Extend the end of the black wire FROM the corner.

Tap the extended black wire into the turn signal hot wire of the park/turn lamp on the same side of the truck as the corner.

Turn signal hot wire color codes:
PS= white w/light blue stripe
DS= light green w/ white stripe

Thanks for the save Bob! Something I completely missed when I did that write up. It wasn't as clear as I thought at the time.

Mods/Admins: My original post needs to be edited to include Bob's comments. Do you want me to do it or do you want to do it yourselves?
Edit: 7/27/08 Fixed my post.
